The last preservation of records request received by the U.S. government[0] was
immediately followed by the seizure of cock.li's hard drives[1] by the hands of
the U.S. government[2]. I complied with this original request in good faith
since it wasn't a request for records and I legitimately desired to aid the
investigation. I legitimately desire to aid this investigation as well; however,
due to this unfortunate precedent, I will not be complying with this request
for preservation. The U.S. DOJ is welcome to follow the normal channels of
obtaining either a subpoena or a warrant for the requested user's metadata or
data, respectively.
